The Maybank Malaysian Open 2013 which will be held from March 21 – 24 at Kuala Lumpur Golf & Country Club (KLGCC) is regarded as the most prestigious golf event in the country and a leading  National Open in the region. The event has hosted some of the best international and regional professional golf players. This year, the tournament ups the ante with a prize purse of US$2.75 million, an increase of US$250,000 from last year’s tournament.
Donald, a native of Hertfordshire, England, will be making his debut in the tournament. The 35 year old is determined to regain the World Number One crown this year from Rory McIlroy, one of his team-mates in Europe’s thrilling success at The 2012 Ryder Cup. In making the announcement today, Maybank Chairman, Tan Sri Dato’ Megat Zaharuddin Megat Mohd Nor, said, “The confirmation of Luke Donald is indeed another boost for the Maybank Malaysian Open. Since we took over the title sponsorship of this tournament in 2006, we have endeavoured to bring world class golfing personalities to Malaysia.”
“Donald’s presence, like many other top players we have had in the past, will not only draw the crowd but also strengthen Malaysia’s standing in the global golfing map. Given the growing interest and spectator numbers at the Maybank Malaysian Open, we intend to continue inspiring our local fans and golfers with the opportunity to see the world’s best on our greens, and in the process, raising the standard of golf in Malaysia.”
Tan Sri Megat also announced another initiative to ensure that the Maybank Malaysian Open continues to excite the public.  “For the first time, our Platinum cardholders and above from around the region will be given free access to watch the golf tournament live. All they have to do is to show their cards at the point of entry.”
Tan Sri Megat added that to further promote the Maybank Malaysian Open, it will expand its Corporate Golf Challenge to Singapore, Philippines and Indonesia this year.  Winners from the Maybank Corporate Challenge will experience the tournament LIVE, with exclusive access to the Maybank Hospitality Marquee and get the chance to play at the championship course during the Corporate Golf Day.”

January 4: Starting this week, Asiantour.com speaks to the stars of the game in Asia to assess their 2012 campaigns. We begin the series with India’s Gaganjeet Bhullar, who won twice and finished fifth on the Asian Tour Order of Merit last year. The Indian ace reflects on a successful season, talks about the highlight of his year and the golf shot which he would like to re-hit.
Can you reflect on your 2012 season?

It was a great season. I had a couple of top-10s, top-fives and two victories. There’re still a lot to learn but I have a lot of positives from last season.
What was the highlight for you?

The victory at the Venetian Macau Open was the highlight of the season. Every victory is special but the win in Macau was very special because I won it wire-to-wire. I’ve done that a couple of times in India but to do it on the international level proves that you are a frontrunner.
What was the low point for you?

There were a couple of low points but from my point of view, I usually look at things in a positive way and keep moving forward.
If you could re-hit one shot, what shot would that be?

It will probably be at the Hero Indian Open on Sunday. I played really bad on number 16 where I made double bogey. I wish I could hit that tee shot on the fairway and maybe get a birdie and finish higher up on the leaderboard.
What was your favourite tournament of 2012?

The Venetian Macau Open because I won the tournament and it is a very nice city.
What have you learned about yourself in 2012?

I’ve been trying to stay patient for a long time and I think I handled it well. Patience will definitely help me over the years.
Which aspect of your game will you practice during the off-season?

My short game. I would love to practice day-in and day-out on my short game and bring it up to a higher level.
Who do you think is the next big star on the Asian Tour?

There are so many guys out here and I can’t point to one. I was told by somebody that there are so many players from the United States who will be playing in the Qualifying School. There are a lot of talented young guys from India as well. It will be exciting to be playing on the Asian Tour in 2013 and I am looking forward to the challenge.
